Power Gets Restored to Chernobyl Plant After Russian Attack
(MENAFN) Electricity has been completely reinstated at the retired Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, following a Russian assault on energy systems in the Ukrainian city of Slavutych, according to a late Wednesday statement from Ukraine’s energy minister.
Svitlana Hrynchuk confirmed that power was back online across all areas of the facility, including the crucial New Safe Confinement dome.
She emphasized that radiation levels remain “within control limits” and do not present any “threat to the population.”
“Thanks to our energy workers for their lightning-fast and effective work! Your work is safety for all of Ukraine and Europe,” Hrynchuk declared in her statement.
Earlier the same day, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry reported that electrical surges had disrupted power to the New Safe Confinement — a vital structure that encases the plant’s destroyed Reactor 4 and prevents the escape of radioactive material.
The Russian government has yet to respond to the allegations. Independent confirmation remains challenging due to the ongoing hostilities.
