Three in Four Non-EV Drivers Interested in Going Electric, Following Veloz National Education Campaign
Electric For All Campaign Data Shows Straightforward EV Facts and Benefits Move Even the Most Unlikely People
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Three in four American adults who don't currently own an electric vehicle (EV) say they're interested in buying one, according to new national research released today by Veloz, the national nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit behind the Electric For All—The Way Forward is Electric campaign.
Veloz’s latest national EV consumer research found that 74% of non-EV drivers are interested in purchasing an EV, compared with 58% in Veloz's 2025 national survey – a 16-point increase following a 12-month national education campaign focused on providing consumers with straightforward information about the practical benefits of driving electric.
The findings show that interest in EVs is broadening beyond traditional early adopters, with some of the largest increases among women, older adults, lower-income households and consumers in markets where EV adoption has historically lagged.
"This data gives us a clear answer. This is a story about education, and when people understand the real benefits of driving electric, interest grows even in the most unexpected places among the most unlikely people across the country," said Josh D. Boone, Executive Director of Veloz.
Who is Becoming Interested in Electric Vehicles?
The survey, commissioned by Veloz and conducted by BSP Research among 1,800 licensed non-EV drivers across all 50 states, measured purchase interest before and after exposure to the Electric For All—The Way Forward is Electric campaign’s educational messaging.
The research found:
- 74% of non-EV drivers are interested in purchasing an EV, compared with 58% in the 2025 research.
- EV interest increased 9 points during the 2026 research period, from a 65% baseline to 74% at the end of the research period.
- Women's EV interest in purchasing increased 14 points, from 55% to 69%.
- Adults age 60+ increased 14 points, from 37% to 52%.
- Households earning less than $40,000 increased 12 points, from 55% to 67%.
- Households earning $40,000–$69,000 increased 14 points, from 61% to 75%.
- Latino consumers increased 12 points, from 74% to 86%.
- Black consumers reached 87% interest, among the highest of any group surveyed.
- Adults with a high school education or less increased 13 points, from 58% to 71%.
The largest demographic gains came from groups that have historically been less likely to be viewed as the core EV consumer, including women, older adults and lower-income households.
Is EV Interest Growing Outside Traditional EV Markets?
Interest increased across political affiliations and in markets where EV adoption has traditionally lagged.
- Republican interest increased 8 points, from 62% to 70%.
- Independent interest increased 11 points, from 61% to 72%.
In Tier 2 states, which have historically lower EV adoption and include Texas, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina, purchase interest increased 11 points, from 63% to 74%.
These increases suggest that interest in EVs is becoming less concentrated in a handful of traditional coastal markets and is growing among consumers across a broader range of geographic and demographic groups.
"This research signals that consumer interest in electric vehicles is broader than many assume," said Robert Barrosa, president and CEO of Electrify America. "Clear, practical information about charging, savings, and everyday EV ownership can help consumers make more informed decisions and build confidence in going electric. We are proud to support the Electric For All campaign and its efforts to reach drivers across the country."
Are Consumers Moving from EV Curiosity Toward Purchase Readiness?
The year-over-year data demonstrates that sustained, consistent public education builds on itself and that no market is out of reach. The research found that consumers entered the 2026 campaign with a higher baseline level of interest than they had in 2025:
- 58%: 2025 research
- 65%: 2026 baseline, before the campaign's educational messaging
- 74%: 2026 endline, following the campaign
The increase in baseline interest suggests consumers are entering conversations about EVs with greater familiarity and openness than they did a year earlier. The additional increase during the 2026 research period demonstrates further movement in purchase interest following exposure to educational messaging.
"Ford is a proud partner of Electric For All — The Way Forward is Electric because engineering great EVs is only part of the battle. We must also build the confidence to drive them," said Cynthia Williams, Global Director of Vehicle Compliance at Ford Motor Company. "EV education is critical for illustrating the practical benefits of going electric and showing consumers how it can fit into—and enhance—their everyday lives."
What Information Are Consumers Looking for When Considering an EV?
The Electric For All — The Way Forward is Electric campaign was designed to provide consumers with straightforward information about the practical benefits of driving electric.
From July 2025 through June 2026, the campaign aired nationally across broadcast TV, social media, digital display, streaming audio and television, and out-of-home media.
Through ElectricForAll.org, consumers could:
- Learn about state and local EV incentives
- Search for new and used EVs
- Calculate potential savings on gas and vehicle maintenance
- Locate charging stations and charging access
- Learn about the practical benefits of driving electric
How Did the Electric For All Campaign Educate Consumers?
In April 2025, Veloz, a national nonpartisan nonprofit, won a competitive grant from Electrify America to implement a nationwide education campaign with the goal of informing potential EV drivers about the benefits of driving electric.
Veloz, along with its agency of record, The Shipyard, created a two-phase campaign approach. The first phase focused on closing the information gap by featuring Nick Offerman delivering simple, direct and practical messaging about the benefits of driving electric. The second phase featured real EV drivers sharing how going electric fits into their everyday lives.
From July 2025 through June 2026, The Electric For All — The Way Forward is Electric campaign, funded through Electrify America's brand-neutral educational campaigns, generated:
- 5.16+ billion impressions
- 4.6+ million visits to ElectricForAll.org
The campaign used broadcast television, social media, digital display, streaming audio and television, and out-of-home media to reach consumers nationally.

Survey Methodology
This national survey included 1,800 adults from all 50 states, interviewed online June 22–30, 2026. The research specifically measures electric vehicle (EV) purchase interest among licensed drivers who do not currently own an EV. The survey was available in English and Spanish.
Respondents were organized into four geographic tiers based on propensity to purchase an EV. Data was weighted using known population characteristics from the American Community Survey and Current Population Survey. The overall margin of error is ±3.1%.
This is the second wave of research. The first wave was conducted at the midpoint of the Electric For All campaign.
